  • Fixed Price Market

You know what might fix some of the gold problems this game has? A fixed price in the market for items. This price will be decided by the game for the specific item being listed. This would stop the little undercutters from under cutting everyone just to make a bit of gold, thus allowing everyone to make the same amount of gold per item. That would level the playing field when selling items on the market, as well as raise the amount of gold that a player can make during the week.

Most items that people sell in this game are almost inelastic goods, meaning regardless of what you price it at, people are more or less going to buy it at the same amount. If someone really wants your DDN L grade ring, they're likely willing to pay anywhere from 5k to 10k regardless since they need the item. Unless you are selling something that never sells but sells for a lot, someone undercutting you just means delaying your item being purchased by maybe an hour.

Lets imagine if your idea went through and suddenly every item has a standardized price. Disregarding how difficult it would be to make a standardized price for every single item of every single possible enhancement or crests with every single possible type of roll, lets say the prices are made and all. Some prices would be undeniably broken. Do you really trust anyone with compiling prices for every single item? Many items would invariably be priced far under or far over their 'normal' price point. Instead of your precious FD 3rd line selling for 50k, it now sells for marginally more than a standard plate because the person who priced it is braindead/a troll.

A few weeks have passed and all the items with messed up prices have been fixed. Hooray! Now everyone is happy about money now and everyone can make equal amounts of money! Sure! Until the supply on items starts to change. Unless you keep the prices on every single item up to date, as supply increases since players slowly become more capable at clearing endgame content, the price would normally go down, but it can't. Items would shift from the market to world chat and the market would be quickly abandoned since why would you try to sell something for 400 gold when there are already 50 listings for that item? You could just as easily bird that you are selling the item for 350g or lower and get an offer much quicker.

If given the opportunity to save just a bit of money, people will do interesting things.
