There were going to be additional branches originally, you can still see traces of them in the game files. Notably:
Sorc -> Warlock (no third spec exists)
Cleric -> Monk -> Exorcist (although weirdly Exorcist is branched from Priest)
As well as two completely unlinked jobs 65 and 66 (no data and no tree information, just two blank jobs in the list)

probally it ended up as the spinoff we know nowadays, whenever I think about a Exorcist Cleric, it reminds me of Arch Heretic automatically
