So I had an idea while in a dungeon.
In addition to the ability for magnifying glasses to see the color of the chest, I think you should be able to spend further magnifying glasses to get a peek inside the chests.
So as like a breakdown.
1st Magnifying Glass: See color of chest
2nd Magnifying Glass: See a silhouette of the item inside (but no name/stats)
3rd/4th Magnifying Glasses: Spend 2 extra magnifying glasses to see the full extent of the item inside.
Potential Pro/cons:
Pros:
- Allows for capped players to attempt to hunt for the items they need to boost their stats further
- Could potentially boost the sales of Magnifying Glasses as well, boosting game profits
Cons:
- It doesnt guarantee that good items will be contained in the chest, so players may waste more magnifying glasses (really, this counts to balance things)
- May make rare gear more common, dropping ingame value of certain items.
Other Notes (as mentioned in replies):
- Short time to select chests makes it hard to utilize [may need an increased selection time] ~Amaurus
