I'll probably use the old client if I can get it running from my hard drive again, or download the new one if I can't. I've been running the game off a flash drive for a while now, because of a bizarre issue that honestly doesn't even make any sense. caption

Only in cases where we retain nothing from the old server/version, young Padawan. Only in cases where we retain nothing.

Basically, whenever I tried to log into the game, it instantly d/ced upon reaching the login screen. Couldn't use the nexon launcher, since my computer doesn't play nicely with it, so I was launching with DNLauncher. Tried everything I could think of to get it to work, short of completely uninstalling & purging any DN entries from my registry, but it didn't work. So, since I wanted to get my SH to 90 before the timer on her box ran out, I copied the installation to a flash drive, and borrowed a laptop from someone. That worked, so, after a while, I tried running it from the flash drive on my computer, and... it worked, and I could log in.

So, basically, I can log in if I run it from a flash drive, but it d/cs instantly if I run it from a hard drive.

It seems this "instant d/c at login screen" issue had been happening to a few people, and no one had found an actual solution for it.

It would only mess with mods. Any actual data is server side, so you'll be good to go on the new client

Yikes...If that were to become widespread...hope an actual fix is found for it. What's more surprising is the fact that it seems to have an issue with the hard drive, but will run from a flash drive just fine.

Whoa, that is weird. It's the first I've ever heard of it. What made you resort to a flash drive?

Indeed. That kinda makes me suspect it's a registry issue, since the flash drive copy runs on other computers without needing to be installed (although I need to copy the My Documents\Dragon Nest folder into the proper location each time, or the game just creates one with default settings), but I'm wary of modifying the registry. [Also, I'm not 100% sure if it's an errant registry entry that's causing it, that's just a guess. I tried installing the Steam version, which would logically have different registry entries, and it didn't work, either.]

The weird things are that: 1) the copy on the flash drive was originally a bitwise copy of the one on the hard drive, but it still worked while the HDD one didn't, and 2) I tried copying it from my programs partition to my data partition, and it didn't work, even though they're different logical drives (programs is C:, data is E: ). I also tried disabling Windows' built-in NTFS compression for the folder, and it didn't make a difference.

It doesn't seem to be all that common a problem, and there is a way around it, but still...

Long story short, this happened during the SH release event, and I wanted to get mine to the cap before her event box expired. So, I borrowed a laptop from someone when they weren't using it, and copied my installation to a flash drive because the laptop doesn't have DN installed. That worked fine, but I was still running short on time. So, on a whim, I tried running it from the flash drive on my computer, expecting it to have the same problem as running it from the HDD... surprisingly, it worked. So, since then, I've been running the game from my flash drive. xD

no...All your items and I mean ALL gold, nx , char stuff is server side. The client only hosts things such what those items look like. As long as they have matching server files with their client files then nothing should be lost. If I remember correctly...Been awhile since its been played with. But shouldn't have anything to fear. These are the Devs not some private server. This is prob a very crude description I suppose..but its been years since I seen that stuff
