Just curious with all these drama that I'm seeing in the forums regarding sniping? Can anyone care to explain what it means and why is it a good or a bad thing?

The current trend in the forums lately is the controversy of taking advantage of the limit that TH holds when you sell items.
Example: If an item is worth 500,000g, you ask the buyer to pay you 300,000g upfront before you post the item for 200,000g. However the whole time that the TH is set up with your item, anyone can buy that same expensive item for 200,000g only. Anyone who is fast enough, or caught wind of the transaction in progress, can continuously spam TH searching for the item and buy the posted item for 200,000g before the buyer does.
This issue opens up a ton of problems. If the seller was selling a well known item, anyone can search TH and repeatedly refresh its search to find the bargain item without notifying the seller for upfront payment. The seller could not track on who bought the item from TH. The buyer who paid the balance upfront ends up with nothing.
This problem only happens to people selling items worth above the 200,000g limit that is set on the Trading House.
Sniping, in the dictionary sense, is to be able to take out a target from long distance - is not the same action performed in TH. It just meant that a [SN]eaky action is taking place to purchase an item at a bargain price.
A separate request has been sent to the Devs to request to increase the cap higher however this has not yet been done. For reasons, we do not know - probably because it perpetuates the hyperinflation problem that plagues MMORPG games. Devs are reluctant to agree to increase the cap.
In my article, I only call it a “bail out” (Scam action #2 in my article). Though anyone is free to call it anything else.
Note to self: I should start expounding on #2 since it was only one paragraph.Last edited by launcelot; 11-30-2018, 04:13 AM.We all hate Scammers and Hackers. Click [HERE] to learn more about their methods.

To snipe means to hit a target from a long distance using a tool like riffles. But in DN snipe slang means to buy something which wasn't intentionally sold to you example of this is sniping a conversion item worth 200kg that sellers are selling for other buyers and means others like the snipers look out for that item and buy it before that original buyer gets it.

Another big reason why this is bad is because some unscrupulous sellers take advantage of how the Trading house offers no information on who bought the item in TH, because once the item is put in TH, all is fair game and anyone fast enough can buy it before the intended buyer can buy it. There is no restriction on who can buy the item placed in TH.
The seller can simply claim that he really did put the item in TH, and can even provide vide proof of it.
But it is up to anyone's guess if he has someone on standby to snipe it from the intended buyer, or the seller himself snipes his own item from TH using a 2nd account.
If seller succeeds in doing this, he gets back the item he was selling, tells the victim buyer that he is a victim of some random sniper, and then a few days later, sells the same item again to another unfortunate buyer.
The drama also happens when people starts noticing a pattern and gets suspicious, and said seller tries to divert suspicion away from himself by accusing someone else as the sniper, thus drama, name calling, bird spamming using alternative accounts to forge false pretense emerges.
The situation is not helped by the fact that EYE gives out bluebirds like free so its very easy to spam them, but i guess it makes for good entertainment from a bystander

Another thread which highlights this was http://forum.dragonnest.com/forum/se...ersion-sniping. Unfortunately, it got buried quickly being in GD plus all the spam lately.Remmystarr from Eden (Discord: Xenocho #8012)

Others have mostly said what was neeed but let me just add that sniping can also be done by a buyer with friends who plans to do this scamming acts. At first they will look for look for famous sellers and one of them will contact the seller and buy the item, once the deal is done the seller will then put the item at the trading house on an agreed time this is when sniping scam is done. The buyer will contact his friends for that agreed time and wait for the item at th, after his friends has bought it he will talk to the seller and tell him he didnt get it and that others might have took it before him which is obviously a lie. After the group have managed to get the item they will then sell that item to another buyer and this time like what others have said pretend to put the item at th where infact they just retrieve it back for this scheme to earn more gold. They will keep repeating this process to make money which made it more annoying for those legit seller and buyer of conversion pouches. A forum member has now an evidence involving a guild master along with a notorious seller known for mischievous acts linked together during one sniping occasion but when will they file a report is still unknown.Last edited by AbyssWand; 11-30-2018, 04:38 PM.
