  • I think I may have found a way to nearly eliminate random disconnections

Wow, it's been 84 years since I last went here. How's my Dear Diary thread going?

Segues aside, I'm currently conducting an experiment that may be able to nearly or completely eliminate DN's stupidly rampant random DC problems and I need you guys to participate.

This method simply requires you to alter your DNS setting to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. This method supports Windows systems dated back to Windows XP.

    inb4
    8.8.8.8 lmaooooooooooo
It never works. Add up the other added benefits of using the specified DNS like idk, faster page loading?

    inb4
ummmmmmmmmm u kno gaems dun work liek dat u kno dey dont even reduce lag reeeee
That's why I needed test subjects to prove this. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Before following the instructions, be sure that the game is not running.
That aside, here are the steps:

Step 1: Open Run and type control ncpa.cpl

Step 2: Right click the Wi-Fi / Ethernet device that currently connects you to the internet (in my case, Wi-Fi 2)

    Step 3: Click Properties

Step 4: Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then Click Properties

Step 5: Choose Use the following DNS server addresses and input the following to their respective fields:

    Preferred DNS server: 1.1.1.1
    Alternate DNS server: 1.0.0.1

    Then Click OK

After applying these instructions, play the game as you normally would. Give at least 1 to 3 days of normal gameplay before reporting back here for the results.
If ever this does solve the random disconnections (especially portal dc), ED should seriously consider pulling a PSA to do this. Have fun

Thanks to launcelot for pointing this out:

Which is why it's also recommended to apply the DNS settings on your router or modem. Sadly I can't provide instructions for this as I̶'̶m̶ ̶l̶a̶z̶y̶ there is a diverse amount of router and modem brands and models on the market. You are left to googling this process, sorry.

What will the latency of the DNS prove?
If DNS failed to provide the correct IP address, what does it prove?

I do this sometimes when the latency goes off the roof and becomes really unbearable but I use the google dns ones.
Some how most of the time, it just work.

        Haha, nice try Mr. Hackerman.

You won't be able to get me because I use Incognito mode.

Why be randomly disconnected when you can always be disconnected?

I always use Cloudflare DNS ever since Linus recommended it.
Before that I use Google DNS.
Anyway, these random dc rarely occurs to me so whatever I use there's not that much of a difference.

I should probably add a footnote that recommends setting the DNS directly into the routers/modems.

I think I'm gonna make the Public Internet Cafe owner pissed when I do this. So no.

I did, but he angrily declined, now the owner thinks I'm scheming something, even though I already explained the reason.

Tell him to Google what Cloudflare DNS can do. That'll convince him

but hey if it does work, I'll just see the word spread around even more so it's all okay

          Update:

So thanks to the latest April patch, the theoretical effectiveness of this method as been thrown flat to the ground.....
          Oops.
