DNP Coupon

You do realize it expires after 24 hours right? You staying up is your own stupidity
-
Why should I have to stay up until 3 am (EST) to get a DNP coupon? Tf eye??? I have yet to get mine today or yesterday.

Maybe it was just a stragety to bring more ppl to play here, enough to sell this server to a new host. Maybe they are already negotiating, who knows. What bugges me the most is that they never stated how long the free DNP event was going to last, i mean i get it, its a marketing stragety to get to bait ppl that this is some of permanent feature or whatever, therefore interested in staying in this server.Last edited by ionatwinkbottom; 12-23-2016, 09:33 AM.

Is there anyone here who doesn't believe that whales (those who spend hundreds/thousands on the game) are the main reason games like this one stays afloat? 'Cause I'm pretty sure my spending of, let's say, $30 on a costume per 2-3 months isn't going to keep DN NA up. Yeah, it helps, but it isn't what they need. They need more than that, I'd imagine. Like, if my small spending budget for this game was enough, I feel like they'd arrange the cash shop so I can get more than just 1-2 things of use with $30. Instead, there's cost for costumes, cost for V.eye.P pass, cost for eggs, cost for jellies, cost for crest and talisman expansions, and so on. It's obscene.
Okay, so if whales are the reason this game stays alive, how does a $15/month handout hurt ED?
And for reference, here's a thread that came up a while ago on the subject of people spending money on the game.
And so we're clear, I'm down to wait and see if people get coupons at midnight PST tonight. If the DNP coupon thing is gone, I will get over it, so don't think I'm just QQ'ing. I just would've enjoyed some information as to when it would disappear and an explanation on why, since it doesn't seem to me like $15/month is jack squat in this game.

It's kinda confirmed the event is over since they didn't gave DNP today. But it still bothers me that they haven't even bothered on telling us. A heads up would have been nice too. But oh well. Let's see how it goes

lf actual communication instead of taking out these kind of things without saying anything xd

Wouldn't mind so much if there wasn't so many bugs after every patch. Awakenings are bugged, spirits still not fixed and they think it's okay to stop giving out some free dnp to players that's already frustrated. I'm not spending another dime on this game until my spirits are fixed.

That's totally understandable, Orona. Different strokes for different folks, eh? I agree with you. Buuut if it doesn't and things go downhill, oh well. I try to enjoy things while they last and when that completely stops, I just leave or take a break. I'd been playing on and off since the initial release and it's always interesting to see how things have changed after coming back from a year-long hiatus. Like BigBeef said, the DNP was a nice gesture. I'm glad we were able to have it for as long as we did.

And I know it's ED's game to manage, and they are absolutely free to take it away whenever they want, for whatever reason they want. So fine, they want to return the game to it's previous state. Life goes on. I hope it doesn't scare off too many people though, I want this game to thrive, or at least sustain itself. :/
To be honest, they can keep this DNP event going simply by rewarding it for finishing all the daily dungeon quests. It would promote a lot more partying and people would actually be playing the game for around 20-40 minutes a day, as opposed to logging in and logging out.

Anyways, money is money. To say something like average $10/month isn't significant, well that just sound wrong.
In the end, it's still our choice whether or not we stay regardless of their handouts. They're either going to lose players by taking away DNP or they're going to lose money by giving out DNP.

Having worked the industry, it's not that hard to gauge what kind of revenue is lost from these DNP coupons. Anyways, to address your points:
1. "Is there anyone here who doesn't believe that whales (those who spend hundreds/thousands on the game) are the main reason games like this one stays afloat?"
Yes, whales are the main reason almost any F2P MMO stays afloat, especially in the case where Gachapon/Random Boxes are relevant to the meta of the game. I can additionally support this point by adding examples. See any Nexon MMORPG, Puzzle and Dragon, and well... Dragon Nest as an example.
2. "Cause I'm pretty sure my spending of, let's say, $30 on a costume per 2-3 months isn't going to keep DN NA up. Yeah, it helps, but it isn't what they need. They need more than that, I'd imagine."
Spending any amount of money, especially $30 on a single purchase, is one of the biggest things that companies look for. Those $10/month on average purchases from small time users add up to a lot. Having worked the industry, those users can make up to 40% of the total revenue. Giving DNP, you lose out on people who make those $10/month purchases for pro packs, people who buy costumes every couple of months to stay cash-shop stat relevant, and small miscellaneous purchases like jellies, birds, and stamps, among other things. Unless you're saying ED doesn't need money, ED does need those purchases if they want to expand, rather than just stay afloat. If you're perfectly okay with DN just staying afloat though, that's another story. In a sense, you hit the nail on what ED is doing, by focusing completely on whale sales, but to neglect those small purchases through DNP coupons just sounds like shooting yourself in the foot. Huge loss in revenue, especially when people have caught wind of the fact you can just hold onto your DNP coupons to get whatever you want in the end.
Most people who make small purchases are probably not going to make them anymore, as long as DNP continues to be given out at this rate.
3. "Okay, so if whales are the reason this game stays alive, how does a $15/month handout hurt ED?"
Loss in revenue. Simple as that. ED doesn't make every single penny that whales spend. I'm willing to bet that 30% of that cut goes to xsolla and another 15%+ goes to whatever vendor is used in between xsolla and ED. Meaning, if you purchased Eye Credit from a Rixty card, whoever sells Rixty Cards takes a cut, Rixty themselves take a cut, xsolla then takes a cut, and the remaining money goes to ED... which they likely have to pay international taxes on before it reaches their wallets in South Korea.
Anyways, money is money. To say something like average $10/month isn't significant, well that just sound wrong.
It's your prerogative to QQ about it. In the end, I'm only offering my opinion through examples and experience... though it is a bad business practice in the grand scheme of things.Last edited by aaron; 12-23-2016, 12:37 AM.

It is not just dnp coupons that might have got removed - also in the past they used to reset mail every day too. Maybe this wont happen any more either! How are we supposed to send items to other characters if the mail doesn't reset each day. I know the whales in the game can afford to buy those premium mail but what about the reset of us. Eye have gone too far this time by potentially removing both dnp coupons and mail resets!
